Benahavís, the mountain village of restaurants: the back story
The back story
About Benahavís, the mountain village of restaurants: the back story
Benahavís lies in the hills behind San Pedro de Alcántara and Puerto Banús, about 15 minutes by car from the coast. The village is small, but its restaurants draw diners from all along the coast.
The village
Benahavís is a compact white village with a Moorish past, set where the Guadalmina river leaves the mountains. Its lanes are lined with restaurants and terraces.
Around it
The wider municipality includes golf resorts and gated estates such as La Zagaleta, but the village itself keeps a rural, mountain feel.
In Benahavís, the coast feels a world away, even though you can see the sea.
Our advice: come for a long lunch or dinner, and allow time to walk by the river below the village.
