The back story

About Mijas Pueblo, the white village above the coast: the back story

Mijas Pueblo is a classic Andalusian white village, with flower-filled lanes, a tiny bullring and terraces looking down over the Costa del Sol.

The village

Mijas keeps the look of a mountain village: whitewashed houses, geraniums on the walls, and lanes climbing to viewpoints. The small square bullring and the shrine of the Virgen de la Peña, carved into the rock, are the best-known sights.

Getting there

Mijas Pueblo is reached by car via the coast towards Fuengirola and then a mountain road; allow about 40 minutes from Marbella.

From the Mijas terraces, the whole coast spreads out below you.

Our advice: go late in the afternoon, when the day-trippers leave and the light softens, and stay for dinner on a terrace with a view.
