Ermita de Santiago

Marbella’s oldest parish church

About Ermita de Santiago

The Ermita de Santiago, on the edge of Plaza de los Naranjos, is the oldest Christian parish church in Marbella. It was a mosque consecrated after the Christian conquest, became a parish in 1505 and was later reduced to the rank of hermitage. It is a simple building of a single rectangular nave, about 8 by 16 metres, with a small belfry; a niche on the square side holds a modern statue of St James. Look for it as you sit in the square.
